The Road Side Stand

In every firewood yard there is always a need to provide access to firewood for customers when you are not around. Firewood emergencies can arise unexpectedly. The temperature drops, there is snow on the ground, and one of your clients furnace goes out.

One way to address the problem of access to firewood is to create a roadside stand with a cash box. A road side stand can be placed at the edge of your wood yard so that customers can purchase firewood as needed.

This roadside stand has legs made with vertical 4x4's (2 ft) and supported with with 12'x4' horizontal 4x4's to stabilize the structure. There are 6 sections for firewood. 2 of the sections are for bundles and the other 4 sections are for bulk wood. Its a good idea to make interchangeable signs for both price and wood type. One week you may have pine for camping at $30 for 1/8 cord, and the next week you might have hardwood for long hot burning at $50 for an 1/8 of a cord.

The stand is constructed with 7 pallets. 4 of the pallets create the walls for the wood storage whereas the other 3 support the roof. The roof is made of 3/4" sheets of treated plywood. Tin or aluminum roofing can be added to preserve the plywood for multiple seasons even beyond what the treated wood offers. Once your roadside stand is working on the edge of your own wood yard, then you can duplicate the stand and put it at various places around town where there is a high volume of traffic.
