Back to Babel

From back in the days of the tower of Babel (Genesis 11), where everyone had the same language and were of one mind, mankind has lost the ability to communicate with one another. This group of people wanted to build a tower whose top would reach up to heaven (Genesis 11:4). God placed a judgment on these people for not obeying his commandment to spread out over the earth and confused their language and thus they were scattered.  In modern times even if we speak the same language, when I say building, you see your office building or a building you saw the other day in the city, or even the place you go to get morning coffee. The building might be a large, small,  octagon shaped or any # of possibilities. All of us have an different image in our minds - so if we wanted to construct a building we would have to have the same plan and picture to start with as well as all speaking the same language. Even though technology is getting to the point where translation is more fluent, its still not as efficient as apples to apples, or shall I say building type X to building type X.

After reality sank in

We had spoke the language of our compatriots

Our thoughts were always as one

All things became our desires

We would not be undone

Centered around sensationalism

Reaching for the heavens and sky

Only thinking of ourselves

So that we would never die

But we became scattered

Unable to speak

In a way that could be understood

And our lofty goals

Lost the position

Of that which we thought they should

No longer the glory

We sought for ourselves

In the way so important to us

And lost we now wander

In a desolate place

Living with the rest of the unjust

Collaboration

If we follow God's commandants he has no issue with us collaborating on projects. Lets see if there is proof for that. In proverbs 8:12 it says, "I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions." So could witty inventions be a brick that was burned thoroughly (extra strength) and slime for morter?  Certainly, but if and only if we are going to use that brick for a purpose that doesn't violate the plan of God.

The Universal Language

Math is often called the universal language and to an extent that's true. If you closely study the ancient monuments of the past, you will come to find out that there is a ton of mathematics encoded into their design. Many of the monuments know where they are having their latitude and longitude embedded into their structure with some of them even pointing to other monuments. The monuments teach mathematics that have been lost through time but preserved in stone. The problem with using mathematics solely as a communication mechanism is that only a few people compared to the 7-8 billion of humans that live on the earth, understand advanced mathematics. So in a sense, it's like the tower of Babel all over again, if we don't all speak "math" its going to be hard to construct our building or our widget. That being said, you still need math to show a visual design which once seen, can be agreed &  acted on. Habakkuk 2:2  says: "And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plan upon tables, that he may run that readeth it." Here it sounds like he is talking about a blue print, a motion diagram, a picture, a description, and maybe even a 3D model communicating the concept of the design.

Conceptual Design - 3D

Communicating the concept of the design - pay careful attention to the word concept. Concept is where the idea of conceptual design originates. A sketch artist through articulated description can construct a composite drawing of the person (or building in our case) being described. The sketch isn't that person, but it has enough detail comprised in it that if you see that person you will recognize them.

Communicating the Intension

Communicating the intention is the primary purpose of Conceptual Design - 3D Magazine through the MathCompiler3D (the software that produces the 3D models in the magazine). If I can show you what I am thinking, collaboration can one again take place without violating God's laws. When you first design a 3D model, you are not using extensive mathematics (other than the mathematics used to create the based 3D objects that you are constructing the scene / world with), you are simply producing a composite model so the vision can be shared with others.

Nothing Shall be Restrained

Genesis 11:6: "And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do." This is a powerful verse - nothing they have imagined to do will be restrained from them. Imagined to do - a 3D conceptual design will certainly help the imagination of a group of people one mind. Let me be clear, I don't want to conquer the world, I don't want control over anyone, and I don't want to take your land. What I do want is to use the technology that God gave us, the way he designed it (meaning to be discovered) and make the world a better place.

The Tool

With the MathCompiler3D, the goal is to constantly add new features to save time, money and improve accuracy allowing mistakes to be caught early in the design process. As the Conceptual Design - 3D Magazine issues are being written, when an article calls for functionality that is not present yet in the software, I stop and create it, so that the application continuously improves, and new features are published in the next version of the software.

The math itself is preformed in C# so that when dynamic calculations from the virtual whiteboard equations are resolved, they are being calculated in the thoroughly tested C# portion of the .net framework so you know your results are correct.

Feedback is welcome - add comments at the bottom of this page to let me know what type of features you would like to see come forth out of MathCompiler3D and the magazine.

I used to sign my emails with a common footer message that said, "If you didn't use 4 wheel drive to get there, it might not have been worth going" - so in like manner I will leave you with these words:  if you didn't design your project in 3D, in may not be worth building. \
