Quick & Easy
This style of sawbuck is inexpensive and easy to construct. Its likely you can find the pallets for free (I recommend heavy duty ones). Take 6 1x4's and some 3 inch screws to stabilize the stack of pallets (on both sides). Slide your "pole" into the pallet slots to suspend it in the air. You can use a magnetic marker for measuring 16" inches or your desired length that attaches to the saw bar. You can adjust the height of the log (based on how tall you are) so its comfortable for cutting by moving the pole up or down the pallet stack. One limitation of this design is it will only work for a certain diameter of poles - that being said, its great to have the right tool for the right job available. In less than 30 minutes you could have this work station set up in your woodyard. If you get that load of small diameter lodge pole pine or small diameter fir, then this would be a good addition to your setup. You may also have a "sawbuck area" where you have multiple sawbucks setup as stations and you can change from one to another to the other based on the shape / diameter of wood you are processing. As an alternative to 1x4's, you can use squeeze clamps temporarily but they come loose easily and I don't recommend it as a long term solution.
